Labiaplasty or Nymphoplasty

The reduction of labia minora or Labiaplasty is a procedure increasingly requested by women in order to restore their intimate parts to a more proportional shape. Due to genetics, pregnancies, or inflammatory processes, the size of the labia minora in the female genital apparatus can increase, which becomes unpleasant for the patient.

On the other hand, as the labia minora become more pendulous, they prevent wearing tight clothing or swimsuits and even interfere with personal hygiene or sexual intercourse.

First Consultation

During the first consultation, a general evaluation of your health status will be conducted, as well as an examination of your external genitals, to determine if labiaplasty is indicated in your case, performing a series of measurements and photographs that will allow us to plan your surgery.

The different surgical techniques that we can perform in your case will be explained to you, as well as the postoperative evolution.

You should be as honest as possible, expressing any doubts that may arise.

Surgery and Anesthesia

This type of surgery is performed on an outpatient basis, under LOCAL anesthesia and DOES NOT require hospitalization. However, some patients with a somewhat more nervous disposition may require anesthetic sedation. The approximate duration is one hour, which may increase depending on the case.

There are various surgical techniques for the reduction of the labia minora, from the excision of a Cutaneous-Mucosal wedge in the central region or the lower edge of the labia, to a Z-plasty in the most prominent area or the vertical excision of the Cutaneous-Mucosal excess, all with good postoperative results and high patient satisfaction.

A scar remains, joining the cutaneous part with the mucosal part of the labia minora, which over time becomes almost imperceptible.

Postoperative

The postoperative period of a labiaplasty is not very painful; patients usually complain of stinging in the operated area, discomfort easily controlled with usual analgesics.

Although postoperative antibiotic treatment is not mandatory, there are various studies that demonstrate a decrease in postoperative complications in this type of intervention, so I usually recommend oral antibiotic treatment for a week after the surgery.

There may be a loss or decrease in sensitivity after the surgery, which will gradually recover in the weeks following the procedure.

You should maintain adequate genital hygiene, washing the wound several times a day with water and soap, keeping the area dry and applying an antiseptic that will be indicated during the consultation.

Some postoperative complications may occur, such as wound dehiscence or a small necrosis of one of the flaps, which will be resolved with treatment in the consultation.

Returning to your normal life will take place in a few days, but you should refrain from physical exertion for at least two weeks and wait at least one month before resuming sexual intercourse.

It is important to avoid smoking, at least two weeks before and two weeks after the surgery.
